27 March 2010
The windows are back in place, the scaffolding is gone and the church is ready for the great celebration of Easter 2010.
Mid March 2010
The scaffolding is back in place and the restored windows are being re-installed.
December 2009
The daily Mass is once again being celebrated in the church as the restoration work continues overhead. Some of the scaffolding will be removed before Christmas giving access to almost all of the pews.
19 November 2009
The daily Mass continues to be celebrated in the sacristy during the ongoing restoration work. The weekend Masses will however, be celebrated in the church. We were delighted to receive a grant of €25,000 from Dublin City Council and a separate grant of €34,000 from the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government. These will help significantly towards the overall estimated cost of €160,000.
Donations towards the restoration work can be made directly to one of the priests of the parish, or by using the Planned Giving Envelopes available in Halston Street, or by direct debit through the bank. Direct Debit forms are available in Halston Street church.
26 October 2009
Three of the windows have been removed and are being restored off site. The photographs show the work in progress with scaffolding and temporary glass in place to protect us from the elements. The cost of the restoration work for these three windows is estimated at €160,000.
In the meantime, we have continued to celebrate our daily Mass, weddings and the Annual Law Mass in our church. Our photographs show the church 'putting on a brave face' in the midst of the dust of the restoration work.
18 September 2009
Work is continung on the roof over St. Anthony's Shrine. This may be completed in the next fortnight and the shrine re-instated very soon after.
Scaffolding is still in place outside the outside as efforts to repair the roof continue between the rain showers!
22 August 2009
Scaffolding from floor to ceiling as the work starts in Halston Street. Ss. Anthony and Anne moved a very short distance to a safer location as work on the entrance corridor takes place.
Scaffolding was erected outside the church during the week so that work could start on the roof on 31 August 2009.
Unfortunately, more damage than expected was found in the roof over St. Anthony's Shrine (see above). This is being repaired at the moment and hopefuly the St. Anthony will be back in his rigthtful place soon.
Work started on 17 August 2009
Scaffolding has been erected in the church, and the area directly below the damaged ceiling has been made safe.
On the opposite side of the church, St. Anthony's Shrine has been temporarily moved so that work on the entrance corridor can start.
On Saturday, 8 August 2009, part of the ceiling over the gallery fell. Thankfully, no one was in the church at the time of the incident. Immediately, the area was cordoned off and made safe. On 12 August 2009, more of the ceiling fell to the ground as can be seen in the slide show.
We are appealing for financial help so that the essential restoration work can be paid for.
Our sincere thanks for all the financial support received thus far.
