Founded as a parochial chapel in the 1700’s this church was constituted 1093 from the penal chapel of St. Mary’s Abbey. The features of the church remain relatively unchanged since construction with the exception of the work completed on the Sanctuary following Vatican II. There are side altars to the Sacred Heart and to the Blessed Virgin.

The stained glass windows are fine examples of the art of stained glass depicting the Mysteries of the Rosary and the Seven Sacraments. The first Novena to St. Francis Xavier was conducted in this chapel in the time of the Jesuits serving in the area. The Novena continues to be held each March in St. Michan’s Parish.

The shrine to Our Lady of Perpetual Help no longer houses the original painting which was removed some years ago and replaced with a more modern image created by one of the parishioners. Other shrines include shrines to St. Anthony, St. Joseph and Our Lady.

In the porch approaching from Halston Street, the holy water font is the original font from the penal chapel, St. Mary’s Abbey.
